It is a pleasant relaxing journey from Colombo, inspiring coastal views along the railway line that first reached Galle in 1894 and Matara a year later. This line that covers much of the beach resorts areas and World Heritage City of Galle is a popular means of transport for tourists. The coast line is extremely picturesque, running through golden beaches fringed by palm trees, mangrove-lined lagoons and waves of the Indian Ocean.

The first historical landmark is seen as the train approaches Mt. Lavinia railway station, 12km away from Colombo. The Governors House built in 1805 by Sir Thomas Maitland which has now been converted into the famous colonial style.. (Read more)

0700 hrs – Entrain and depart Fort Railway Station by Viceroy Special Train to Galle.

1030 hrs – Arrive and detrain at Galle Railway station.

1530 hrs – Entrain & depart Galle Railway Station by Viceroy Special Train to Colombo.

1630 hrs – Tea/coffee served on board.

1900 hrs – Arrive at Fort railway station.
