One of the world’s
oldest forms of healing, Ayurveda
– derived from the Sanskirt
for life (ayuh) and knowledge (veda)
– originated more then 3,000
years ago.
The basis of Ayurveda
is the belief in a combination of
five basic elements forming three
types of energy within the body. Vatha
(a combination of air and space);
pitha (fire and water) and kappha
(earth and water). Ayurvedic practioners
believe that illness arises when these
energies are out of balance, and work
to restore harmony.
Sri Lanka has around
6,500 registered Ayurveda practitioners
many of whom have undergone a seven
– years study course, followed
by two years in a conventional hospital.
Ayurveda`s pharmacopoeia
of preparations includes a vast range
of leaves,roots,bark,resin,spices
and fruits.Used with the experience
of 3,000 years, the ingredients of
Ayurveda continue to work their restorative
and healing magic, and can easily
be experienced by visitors to Sri
Lanka.
Yoga
Yoga is a healing system of theory
and practice. It is a combination
of breathing exercises, physical postures,
and meditation that has been practiced
for more than 5,000 years.
Apart from the curative
value, Yoga brings tranquility and
stillness into our lives. The two
aspects of Yoga thus provide a powerful
tool for coping with physical and
mental stress of modern day living.
Meditation
Meditation is a technique,
or practice that usually involves
focus on an object, perhaps a candle,
a sound or your breath.
Meditation allows your mind activity
to settle down and results in you
becoming more peaceful, calm and focused.
Meditation is great for stress management.
Remember stress occurs in your mind,
that doesn't make it less real. It
means your mind is the key to remove
stress from your life. You will experience,
relaxation, increased awareness, mental
focus, clarity and a sense of peace
if meditation is practiced regularly
