Arugam
bay,on the east coast has long been
established as a Mecca for Surfing,
with sufficiently consistent waves
to attract international surfing contests.
The main break is at Arugam point,
while Pottuvil offers what has been
described as every surfer’s
dream of a tropical wave, which gives
a ride of around 800 meters in ideal
conditions. When the surfing season
ends at Arugam Bay, it`s just beginning
at Hikkaduwa, on the west coast, roughly
100 Km from Colombo. There are three
or four surf areas, most of them breaking
near Hikkaduwa`s well known coral
reefs. The waves are a maximum of
two meters high, and are sufficiently
interesting to attract international
surfers during the season. |
