When travelling along the main road from Colombo to Trincomalee, Polonnaruwa and Batticaloa, that small city you find yourself drawn to will be Habarana. Even though it is not a destination in itself, Habarana city is a safe haven for most tourists as it holds some of the best hotels the country offers.
Being in close vicinity to many places with that of cultural and historical significance further adds to its attraction. Among these; Sigiriya (listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site), Minneriya Sanctuary and Dambulla Cave Temple are the most popular.

Elephant back riding is also one of the city’s main attractions making Habarana an adventure of a lifetime.
